In Davos, knowledge transfer has a long tradition.
Already in 1878 the first college was founded and right after the turn of the century the first research institute was established by Carl Dorno.
In 1928 Albert Einstein inaugurated the «Davos Academic Courses (Davoser Hochschulkurse)» which did mobilise internationally recognised personalities from politics and science. With the beginning of the National Socialism in Germany, the Davos Academic Courses ran into difficulties and were finally suspended.
In 1972, the foundation «Forum Davos» was established by the community of Davos together with a range of different personalities of Davos with the goal, to support scientific studies, together with further academic education as well as knowledge transfer between the disciplines of natural science, engineering, medicine and the arts.
On June 30, 2004, «Science City Davos» was founded and constituted as an association. Since the beginning of January 2005 Science City Davos is supported by the Confederation based RegioPlus program, with that intensive development and implentation work started.
From January 2005 until August 2006, the Biologist Maria von Ballmoos was in charge of the association. Since September 2006, the Agronomist Britta Allgöwer has taken over the lead of Science City Davos.
